Replying to:  "New" line by "new" design team? by Xtremegene   Nov 27, 2007, 1:43 PM

Phones like the 6305, 6215 and 6315 were phones designed completely by other companies like Pantech. Even the software is not Nokia's, it's just tweaked a bit to look and work a little more like a Nokia.

The 2135 was designed by Nokia. You can expect it to work and perform more like a Nokia.

Nokia didn't actually manufacture it, but technically they outsource manufacturing for all kinds of phones. Apple doesn't actually manufacture the iPhone, either, and Palm certainly doesn't manufacture Treos. What's important is who designs and engineers it, and Nokia designed the 2135.

Nokia didn't have any team at all to design CDMA phones when the 6305, 6215 and 6315 were being planned. That's why they had to outsource it.

Now they have a new design center in San Diego where they design phones specifically for the US, (both CDMA and GSM.) This is one example. The 6555 is another.
