I think it is, essentially.

Well... maybe Sidekick 3.5 would be more accurate, but it's definitely a follow-up to the 3.

The reason I say "3.5" is because of Sharp's internal model numbering:

Sidekick 2 = PV100
Sidekick 3 = PV200

After that, T-mobile decided they needed a whole family of Sidekicks at different price points, so they went to Moto for the mid-range unit, while Sharp took the PV200 as a starting point and made both a cheaper and a nicer version:

Sidekick iD = PV150
Sidekick LX = PV250

It could be argued that the LX is like a "Sidekick 4", or perhaps the LX is a "3.5" and whenever Sharp makes a PV300, you could consider that the Sidekick 4.

Call it whatever you want to. It is what it is. 😉

Well, initial pictures said "SideKick 4 LX", but everything since just says "LX", with no 4. Since the specs are almost the same as the 3, I would hope that the 4 is still to come, maybe UMA/touchscreen/video/all the stuff missing from SK to make it a serious contender against phones like Treos and the iPhone...

UMA and video... sure, I could see those in the next new Sidekick.

Touch-screen is different. The Danger Hiptop OS simply isn't a touch-screen OS, so that would be a radical shift for them, and I'm not sure it would even make sense.

In fact, I would argue that when they added the trackball as an input method, that was what they chose instead of a touch-screen, and to change course with the UI now to make it touch-oriented would be a radical and unnecessary change to the OS.

Sidekicks aren't really designed to compete directly with something like a Treo, and even the iPhone is going after a slightly different market. The whole reason Danger created the Hiptop concept was to fill a niche that wasn't being served with devices li...

Sure, I hear that, I just figure with all the models, they could make a "better" version along with these "dumbed down" versions...

LOL! The ID is for people who can't or don't want to pay a lot for the SK3 and just want a great messaging device without camera bluetooth etc. If you notice in the commericals the age group that TMO is targeting for this device are teens.
