HTC Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for AT&T Tilt

This has been out for a while, but I just discovered it and installed it yesterday. I also did the trick that prevents the AT&T bloatware from being installed, so now I have 105 MB free storage and 66.5 MB free program memory. (I have a 4 gig SDHC micro card that I use as primary storage.)

Apparently HTC posted the wrong link, so the one I gave above (and installed on my phone) is actually only the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.0 for the Tilt.

What made me suspicious is that one of the improvements that is supposed to be included in the 6.1 update is the ability to re-program the PTT key on the phone, and I couldn't figure out how to do it. While searching for how to do that I found references to the incorrect link provided by HTC.

HTC will allegedly have the link corrected "soon" but we'll see...

After initial device setup, but before the "customizations" are installed, there are two prompts.

The first says something to the effect of "tap screen to begin using your device."

The second appears shortly after the first and is a dialog box that says something to the effect of "customizations will begin in 3 seconds" with the only button available being "Ok."

Prior to this WM 6.1 ROM, you could hit the soft reset button (small hole above and to the right of the USB port in the bottom of the device) while the second prompt was displayed and that would abort the customization process. The second prompt basically gave you 3 seconds, which was plenty of time to hit reset.

Hey, just got a message from work (an authorized retailer for AT&T) that this update will be available effective tomorrow, the 26th) I'm so excited!!!
