will the same upgrade for the 8525 work?

i really dont know why att screws with the apps so damn much.

I'd love to know how to install a clean version of WM6, or more specifically 6.1. I did manage to remove most of the AT&T bloatware, but there are still leftover icons (which now link nowhere and yet still remain) and shortcuts that I can't get rid of.

for me, its not just the bloatware. it the internet sharing thats missing. for the unaltered WM6, there is an icon in the programs folder for internet sharing.

to tether, all you have to do is hook up the device to a pc and tap that button. in about 5 seconds, you are surfing at high speeds.

att does whatever it can to make is so damn hard to use the modem feature. its ridiculous.

yes i was made aware of that. however, i find it very difficult to use. most of the pc's that i tried it on require a driver and sometime that doesnt even work.

using internet sharing is a breeze. do drivers and no hassle. wireless modem just sucks.

There is an easy way to fix this.

AT&T wants you to use their service and pay for it.

Your phone was equipped to do this without paying. AT&T did not remove it from your phone they just hid it. To restore it, do the following.

Go to Start/Programs/Tool/File Explorer

Once File Explorer opens go to the Windows file. In the Windows file find the file "Internet Sharing" Hold the stylus on it until the Cut option appears.

Under the Window folder open the Start Menu and then open the Programs menu. In a blank spot hold down the stylus until the paste option appears. Paste the file here and it will then appear in your program folder under the Start menu.

If you are using Vista, connect your cable to your computer and let the...

So your telling me I can get high speed 3G internet on my laptop for the $15/mo that I already pay ATT for unlimited MediaNet?
That would be awesome! A savings of $45/mo over Broadband Connect.

I would really, really like to know if AT&T can detect that as tethering or not. I'm considering doing a stand-alone data plan with this thing for tethering... maybe.

What exactly do you mean by stand-alone data plan? If you have an unlocked smartphone, and they don't what device your using they can't force you into one of they're stupid greedy pda plans. Perhaps you can get a $15/mo Unlimited MediaNet Plan, like I have.

So anyway, I so much want the new HTC Touch Pro, that is such a cool device, 5-row keyboard, VGA screen, TouchFlo3D. I'm just curious if the camera is any good. Unlocked it's gonna be way expensive though.

Do you know if HTC Smartphones that are unlocked can automatically detect network settings for internet and MMS?

They can detect the type of phone you are using whether or not it is unlocked. You can try to use a MEdiaNet plan on a PDA, and in fact it will probably work, but they can detect what you're doing and might do something about it. Though there's really not much they can do other than cancel your account.

As far as the HTC Touch Pro goes, it doesn't have all of the North American 3G frequencies so you probably wouldn't get very good reception with one. I want one too, but I'm going to wait until they produce a tri-band HSDPA version for the US.

But do you know if an unlocked HTC smartphone will automatically detect network settings for MediaNet & MMS?

I'm gonna try to get my hands on some OT on my job to get some money together for the Touch Pro, I'm sure there will be a GSM U.S. version around October/November.

I like that it's HSUPA capable, faster data is always a good thing!!!

I doubt that it will automatically detect them (though it's possible) but if you're an AT&T subscriber you can have them send you an SMS handles the configuration for you.

Note that MEdiaNet is AT&T's internal shop. An unlocked phone may not be able to access it at all, though I don't actually know. Even if it can't access MEdiaNet, though, they can help you set it up for internet access.

Actually, I can (almost) guarantee AT&T can detect what kind of phone you're using, I work in Business Care. When I look at a bill I can click any call listed in the details and see what IMEI the call was used on. If a PDA is shown using data on a Media Net plan it isn't designed for it CAN be charged pay-per-use rates. Mind you, I haven't seen that happen yet, but I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig. In fact, we've actually lost the ability to even put Media Net plans on an account if the IMEI shows a PDA.

The "almost" refers to the fact that we don't have a full listing of every single IMEI, many show "unknown device". But I can't afford to buy a device like the TILT unlocked, so it'd have to be with a contract; therefore AT&T would kn...
