My screen cracked after 12 days while the phone was in my desk at work. Both AT&T and HTC have told me that this is my problem to fix and they do not have any responsibility in the issue. Both customer support people told me screens only break from user abuse, so I must have abused the phone.

My screen cracked as well, again no abuse, the phone has never been dropped and doesnt have a scratch on it. I am extremely careful. It was on the charger and I went to retrieve it and the screen was cracked. ATT has told me they want $498 to replace the screen. The phone cost me under $400 and I've had it 2 months. It replaced an 8525 that I had zero issues with.

My brother cracked the screen on his 2nd copy (the first was returned because it was locking up daily) by simply pressing "answer" with the meaty part of his finger (not the fingernail) when it rang.

He took it back, was told that they wouldn't replace the phone for physical damage, so told them he wanted to return it and cancel his account because he was still within 30 days of activation.

That got them to negotiate, so he ended up paying $50 for them to replace it because that was apparently included in the fine print of his contract as a restocking fee or something similar.

Unfortunately I'm at 62 days into this phone. I did find the replacement part for about $100, but from what I've read, actually doing the replacement without breaking something else in the process is pretty tedious, and I suck at this kind of thing.

There are places online that can do the repair for like $130. I broke my previous 8525 and thats what I paid to have it fixed.

After two months I finally have gotten my phone fixed for free. I had to go through many channels and eventually find an AT&T rep in the midwest that did stand behind their product and they have sent me a replacement phone.

YES! that happened to me just 2 weeks after buying the phone. the phone was just sitting on my desk at work when the screen stopped working and the HTC customer care dept told me that it was due to physical damage. OK...show me where there is physical damage??!!!! These expensive phones are just a way to get your money.
