No keyboard is a complete turnoff for me. I hope this isnt a trend for other phone makers.

The keyboard comes up on the touch screen like the iphone. I think this is going to be a great seller for Sprint.

i agree it would be nice to have the keyboard but its pretty obvious this phone is intended to compete directly with the iphone. although i noticed it doesn't have wifi which surprises me when the mogul has it and in order to compete with the iphone HTC needs to make sure their checking the right boxes in a comparison.

i was able to play with a friends iphone and its pretty cool. if i was an apple junkie i would leave my carrier to get one. if the Touch is similar then it will help keep customers and give another option to the iphone for those who dig the whole finger swipe thing. HTC, put wifi on it , dont skimp.

dont talk about skimping when the only reason GSM phones provide WiFi is because GSM is rly slow.

Neither the AT&T 8525 or Tilt or slow, and both have WiFi. So your point is wrong ๐Ÿ˜ .

The data side of the GSM network cannot compete with that of 1x EV-DO Rev.O that Sprint can offer. The speed of Rev. O right now is equal of 1 MB or faster, soon to upgrade to Rev. A which will be closer to 3MB. WiFi cannot produce speeds that fast due to so many others connecting at the same time.

So compare AT&T's network of 500kb to 800kb tops to Sprints 1MB at average now, WiFi is not needed.

maybe in your market, but here sprint averages 400 to 500kbps on rev 0 and sucks! ๐Ÿคฃ they can't come close to at&t's hsdpa. we've tried the tests with my 8525 and a mogul & sprint Q.

plus, just simply having voice and data at the same time is a huge advantage.

Ok, first off... you're not in a Rev O area if you are only getting 400 to 500 kbps, you're probably in 1XRTT area, or roaming on data side.... which must mean you're not close to any cities, or more populated areas. Most of our data has been upgraded to Rev.O, but not completely, while other areas are already getting Rev.A.

Even our slowest network is producing speeds just under what most other carriers are producing at fastest. Maybe one day you will get Rev.O or A, and then you'll say bye bye to WiFi.

Charlotte, NC is definitely Rev.0 for Sprint, not just 1XRTT. We live right outside of uptown, so I would say it pretty populated.

You say our, you must work for Sprint. That would explain why you're in denial. ๐Ÿคฃ Sprint is garbage, AT&T and Verizon continue to crush them each quarter. Wimax will not save them. Take my advice and jump ship before it gets worse, buddy.

No i don't work for Sprint, and as far as the quarters stating numbers, thats all that is, the cell phone world is constantly revolving. Verizon nor AT&T has the data speed that even compares to Sprint's, and if u live near Charlotte, then you obviously don't have an EV-DO device. I'm in Rev.O, and my data speed at peak time is close to 2MB.

I know 3 people with the iPhone, and its nice, but my Motorola IC902 will run circles around that thing on data. Not bashing it, just stating the facts. Here is one of the famous quotes from them "You mean you can do live TV on your phone?".... yep, and i only paid 300.00 for it, not 600.00!

You do know that the iPhone is only EDGE, of course that is fact! Other phones have faster data speeds. Apple built an out of date product and dummy Apple fanboys bought it.

The mogul is definitely EV-DO and it lost on download speed next to my 8525. My roommate's Q also lost when it came to download speeds.

finally somebody got it right...good job bigbmc26. The debate isnt evdo vs 3g. Iphone has wifi because its on edge which is slower than molasses. IT has to have wifi but touch is on evdo network so wifi isnt that big of a concern. Any gsm phone nowdays that doesnt support 3g is jsut worthless and I have to say that for the iphone as well. My BB 8830 cost me 275, my 30gb video ipod cost me 200 so 475 and the only thing i dont get is visual voicemail(who cares) and youtube(who cares). Hell throw in the 100 dollar zune i just got and thats 575 for 60+ GB of storage, and a do it all BB as opposed to the 599, had to get a contract extension thru ATT iphone when it came out and you only get 8gb of storage. I know apple sold over a million b...

carocell,
Now that you've started in on VZW I have to jump in, I was a sprint customer for 8 years until recently I tried the VZW and let me tell you, there is no way that sprint even comes close to competeing with VZW data services, they claim to be able to, but in reality they aren't even in the same ballbark. I like Sprint, but VZW truly is the best DATA network in America. AT&T now there's a network that blows.

You might want to read a little farther into EV-DO data transfers, there are actual data transfer test done by RF engineers on all the networks, and granted VZW does have a good network, Sprint still has faster up and download speed, that is proven, and with the first network going to Rev A, we'll see you when ya'll get caught up. I do agree with you AT&T..... well enough said.

I'm not that worried about the keyboard. It's windows mobile, so someone can write an application that has a keyboard that works just like the iphone keyboard. I think this phone looks cool, and if I get one, heck, I might even write the keyboard app for it and release it as freeware just to be nice.
