So I live in the City of Rochester New York, Just signed up with Spring and bought the LG Rumor.

I also have another house in a smaller town called Olean. The LG Rumor worked great! I never hit a no service spot until I went out in the sticks one day. Came back and never regained service. I rebooted and called Sprint and LG..nobody could help me, all they said I can do is wait for another one to arrive.

I got to use my new phone and service for 1 days and 16 hours. Wonderful...anyone else have this issue. 👿

As a tech rep for the company that is providing service for the Rumor, I can tell you what it might be. At the beginning of Dec., we were given info about a "Panic code" on the LG Rumor.

Apparently, the Rumor can be put into a recovery mode by pressing a key sequence during start up. Once this is done, it will wipe a lot of the programing on the phone. If this is done, your phone is bricked. We cannot repair it in the field, and the unit must be shipped back to LG.

I'm not 100% sure that you experienced this issue, but the info that you gave sounds like it.

Don't press buttons on the Rumor until it is fully powered up and says that it is in service!!

I have experienced the same problem. I had the LG Rumor active for only 1 week when it went into "panic mode" and became useless. Sprint advised that I would have to send my phone back and order a new one; however, the white phone is "out of stock". I called LG customer service and they have never heard of this problem. This is so frustrating!!! How many people have had this happen? I'm suprised LG does not know about this. 😡

Hey dorlack,

I had the exact same problem. With my first rumor, I experienced this issue and received a replacement. With the second rumor the exact same thing happened. I too loved the phone, however I don't understand why it would be so finicky to erase all data simply because you press some buttons during start-up. I can't control what happens to my phone in my pocket, so if it turns on and buttons are pressed, it is apparently my fault.

Needless to say, I will not be getting a third rumor due to this issue.

Firmware fix is available now. Simply do the following:
Settings/Tools
Tools
Update Firmware
Follow prompts to download and install the software. This process took about 10 minutes or so for my phone, so be patient.
