Theoretical max for the Telstra implementation is around 150Kbps.
Actual rates depend on whether you have a capped or uncapped service
(you pay more for uncapped Smile. Capped rates are around 60-80Kbps,
uncapped around 120 Kbps. The 1x service is only in capital cities
and major regional areas.

If you use the device as a modem then it is the pretty much the same
as dialing into your ISP - you get access the the whole internet.
