Faxmodem setup for 6385

by ndroadie    Oct 22, 2003, 9:32 PM

I've seen several postings about using the 6385 to send a fax. I
have XP Pro and WinFax Pro v10, and use my phone to fax every week
because I no longer use a landline.

This explaination is based on Verizon service, so there maybe some
differences depending on your SP.

First you need a modem driver for your computer. For Verizon I used
a standard driver that I downloaded from the Verizon website. I have
also used a 6385 modem driver that I found on the web.
Once the driver is installed you should see the modem in your control
panel.
Next test your cable by just plugging it into the phone. The phone
should respond by showing "ready for data". If you don't see this,
you need a DLR-3 cable. Now plug your cable into a serial port.
Setup WinFax by going to Modem properties and making your modem
active on the selected com port(usually 1). You can test the port
and it should report Faxmodem 2.0
This setup should work, but ocassional I've had to power cycle my
phone first to get the com port to respond.
