LG VX-8350
Unusable speakerphone???
I spoke to a person at Verison about this and his solution was to use a headset! Not very helpful or rational. This defeats the purpose of having a speakerphone. Any suggestions?
If the only issue is that you get feedback when the speakers are covered up by your hand, then I'm not sure what to tell you, because that is normal. If you have large hands, I could see that being a problem. 😕
The only options you have then are to either hold it with three fingers (its ok, you won't drop it unless you're a butterfingers), or set it down on a table or whatever on its' side (very convenient, actually), or, if all else fails, hold it by it's flip.
I've done all of the three, with no problems. But yeah, I think LG should've had the speakers even higher up...

Depends. Are you still getting feedback even when you're not covering up the speakers or the mic? If so, your phone is defective, and you should have it replaced.

It's a fairly small phone, so it's not tough for a guy with big paws to totally cover up the back of the phone with his hand. .
The only time I get feedback is when I hold the phone in my hand. Then, the speaker gets blocked. My hands aren't huge, the phone is small and poorly-designed. I have spent a lot ...

VZW corporate stores won't have them, but 3rd party/agent stores very well may, as they often sell older phones. You could also ask at Circuit City's Verizon kiosks.
I know the 8350 got good reviews from CNET and other sites, but the more I use this phone, the more I don't like it. Many of my complaints are like those that have been adequately addressed in other forums. I am more disappointed with this...

However, I'm pretty picky when it comes to speakerphones... it may sound fine to you.
If the speakerphone on the 5400 isn't very good, I am not sure what to do. I really can't find a lot of detailed and extensive reviews about the 5400 either in forums or on typical review sites. It may be too new. I don't have much time left to decide. I need to spend a lot more time at Verizon. The only other phone I have found as an alternative to the 8350 is the Samsung Gleam and that has it's own set of defi...

As you say, just spend a lot of time messing with the phones at the Verizon store, and see which one you really like before leaving with one. That's what I always do, regardless of whether or not it annoys the reps or not. Though I am nice about it. 😉
YES, IT'S DEFECTIVE!!!! I went to the store yesterday (along with about 2000 other people). I explained to the salesperson what the problem was. For the first time, after dealing with a number of sales people at Verizon, this person actually took the time to use my phone. He experienced the problem. His conclusion: "The phone is defective. It shouldn't do this."
Try the display model at the store, if it does the exact same thing that yours is doing then the 8350 isn't for you.
We tried one of the live display models--no feedback! I exchanged mine for another one. It's fine--a lot like my 6100. The audio system, in general, must have been defective. With the old phone the ear...

Thanks.
Glad to help. 😎
And yeah, its unfortunate, but a lot of reps, for ANY carrier, really aren't very good at what they do. So it pays to educate yourself... though in a perfect world you really shouldn't have to, eh?
I discovered the that the variable was turning on the "Voice Clarity" feature. Turning off this feature allows the speakerphone to work fine.
I also found that the voice command feature does not work well if you set it to work throug the speakerphone. It works much better when I have it respond through the earpiece.
Hope this is helpful
