If you find you simply can't hold the phone comfortably (for you) without blocking the speakers, I'd say look around and see if you can't pick up an LG 8300. The speakers on that one are on the sides, and more difficult to block.

VZW corporate stores won't have them, but 3rd party/agent stores very well may, as they often sell older phones. You could also ask at Circuit City's Verizon kiosks.
