What does shutting of the EVDO actually do?

If i were to shut this off, what would it do?
I heard it saves battery life, but will it mean i can't send/receive pictures/video?

You can still send and receive pics with EVDO off, it'll just be a bit slower, that's all. Still works fine.

Video might be another story. If you have a VCast package, you should definitely leave EVDO on.

How is it possible to shut it off (not that I would want to)? I thought EVDO had to do with web browsing.
