That's all it does right now. So if you're a Gmail fanatic, or MSN, Hotmail, SBC, TNT (AC/DC rules), you're out of luck... For now. Just factor this..

It works with gmail and any other provider that allows POP/IMAP access unless something changed in the last day or two.

Make sure pop is activated in your gmail settings.

If you constantly get bad username and password. Just keep trying, eventually it will work. Also, the gmail seemed to put all my mails (inbox, sent, spam) in my phone inbox.

With yahoo, I got bad username/password a few times. Got through a bit easier than gmail. My mails also seemed to all be in the proper place on the phone.

So, it does work, not perfectly, but good enough to get the job done.

Best to just go there from the WAP browswer. The built in email clients are pretty much worthless.

Would be nice if you could use the java gmail. And mini opera too.

After a few calls with T-Mobile and looking on message boards, here's what I can figure out:

Even with POP config'd, Gmail access is iffy. (In my case, I can send email, see my inbox, but not actually read an email -- ridiculous.) This issue appears to have surprised T-Mobile too, as they claim to have multiple tech teams working on it -- but no ETA on a fix. The only viable alternative is accessing email through WAP, which obviously costs more.

I intend to keep the phone until near the 30-day return limit, and based on T-Mobile's progress, decide then whether to keep or return.

More as I hear it.

You keep getting bad username/password right? Sometimes it works right away, sometimes get bad username/password and have to keep trying over and over again.

Even sending email is not reliable. It will say it was sent properly, but never was. I did a test and sent 10 emails from the phone. All 10 said it was sent, only 6 actually arrived at the destination.

Email access is pretty much the main selling point of this phone and it doesn't work. I took it back. Its a very pretty and cool looking phone, with a unique keypad. Its a shame that they shipped it out with a pathetic email client.
