BB Data Plan, or MediaMax200

I work at At&t. I have always told customers that they HAVE to get the Blackberry Data plan for unlimited data, and then to get text they'd have to put an additional text package on.

However I really have not ever tried using my black berry with just the Media max 200. which is unlimited data, and 200 text for 19.99$ a month. Compare that to the BBdata 29.99+ 4.99 200 messages. It is 15$ cheaper!!!

I haven't seen any difference what so ever between the "MEdia net" brower, and the Blackberry browser, they appear identical. So if I was to take the blackberry browers/data plan off and use the media unlimited would it work????????
Has anyone ever done this successfully, or does it not work?

I have that same question. I have considering the Curve for some time now. After talking to an AT&T rep, I was told that I would have to sign up for a "BlackBerry Connect" plan that would be $15 more (including additional texting added).

I don't know why you have to upgrade your plan to "BlackBerry Connect" instead of using the MediaMax 200 (which I currently have). I think the only difference is the email support using BlackBerry's service.

The bad news is that this is not the reason I want the Curve! I know that it would be cool to have a fast email service (push service and easy-to-configure POP and IMAP support), but it's not really the selling point of the phone for me.

So, the question stands. Can you get a BlackBerry with jus...

Hey bro, that's a great question, but you said you work at AT&T, so can't you just change your plan on your own?

In reality I could change my plan and try it out, however I didn't really want to screw up the email service or anything in the process. Also dealing with the prorated charges is something I didn't feel like dealing with if someone has already successfuly tried it.

If I don't get any responces of ppl who've ever tried it, i'll probably end up trying it out, and then posting to see if wokrs..

If you work for AT&T, don't you get a discounted rate on the BB data plan? Cause I sure do ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm positive opera mini would work, as well as the MEdia net - and if you don't care about losing the BIS end of it I would say go for it. I'm assuming you know you probably wouldnt qualify for any rebates though (that's if you bought it with a contract)

Please let me know what you end up doing.

Blumpelstiltskin:

So are you saying that if I bought a new Curve (no contract, just buying one outright) I can just use the MediaMax 200 which currently have without having to sign up with BlackBerry connect?

I just want the phone. If I don't have the email service, I wouldn't care.

Is this possible?

I think it's totally do-able. I would also suggest downloading opera mini, it's a little cleaner than the media net browser. I had a friend who bought a curve, he put his SLVR sim in there, and the media net worked no problem.

I love the Opera Mini browser! I really hate the Media Net version...so that's not a problem. So, I guess the only reason I would want BlackBerry Connect is the email right? What else does the extra $15 a month have other than the email service? (The $15 is the "extra" amount it would be if I went to the BB plan).

If the email is only thing and I can download and install Opera Mini...I'm in! lol...

Really the email is the only difference - I've told people that they "have" to put the blackberry data on their device... but it's primarily to cover my own ass - but thats obsolete considering I'm not the one selling you the handset ๐Ÿ˜Ž

my main problem would be dealing with the 200 messages... I sent over 7000 last month ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Blumpelstiltskin- So what I'm getting from this is that the only difference is that you don't get Email? Are you sure about that, as in have you tried, or know of people who have done that??

Just trying to be clear on this,

I think I've said it a few times - it will work. Once you have access to the media net browser, I would suggest downloading opera mini (just google opera mini and I belive it's the first link)

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

I understand that it will work for the internet. What is still not being said is the specifics of the Email.

Without the package would I have to log onto(for example) Yahoo, and log in, and check the email like that. OR

Does it still push the Email Directly to the phone???? (as it would with the blackberry data service)

Thanks for the help so far.

Like I said - you'll lose the email aspect... as in the push email associated with the BIS service you are declining. To me, the $ is well worth it to get the blackberry service.

you may still log in to your existing ISP, and check your email the "old fashioned way"

no BIS = no push

yes?

i don't mean to butt in to your conversation but there is more to it than what you guys were talking about. it is now enforced by at&t with data plans and bb plans. i had to check but it is certain the sweep will remove your media plan and then you will be charged for your data usage. just to help you guys with yourselves and your customers. please please please put them on the right plan.

by the way i'm an at&t employee too
