Okay, i am a lil' confused about the services you need to have with the Curve. So on top of the 59.99 (or 39.99, whatever minutes you choose) monthly minutes fee i also need to pay another 30.00+ dollars fee to be able to check/send my email and send texts and pics? Is that right? So you all pay almost or more than 100.00 dollars a month just to be able to do all that stuff?

Also, can you change/install themes on the curve?

Can the mp3 player run in the background?

Can you install games and other applications on it?

Yes, you need a data plan. I use the personal max plan - unlimited data (email and text messaging) and 1500 minutes of sms messaging (sending pictures, video etc.). Plan costs about $30 extra above voice minutes.
Curve comes with 3 themes, I don't know about installing others, I just like the standard.

What if I buy the phone unlocked? Will it simply not work if I don't have some special plan?

if you get the phone unlocked, chances are that it will not have the at&t settings that the locked phones have. inputting the settings is just a matter of contacting tech support for at&t and getting the settings and inputing them in the phone. i believe the blackberry stuff itself will work regardless. i haven'
t had any instances with it personally though. as with all blackberrys you will need some kind of a data plan on the account in order to not be charged great big old charges for doing things like surfing the internet and using the email functions.

alot of people are saying that they use the media max plan instead of the blackberry plan. the blackberry plan is there and designed to be used specifically with blackberrys and select...

I am not sure what your objective is. Will you use the curve on the ATT network? If so why get it unlocked?

I doubt that ATT will give you an unlock code. You can buy them on ebay for a few $. I did that and am using a Curve on TMobile. Note that ATT/Cingular have modified the phone a great deal. I am not sure what they did to the browser but I can't get it to work on the Tmobile network. I downloaded the Mini opera and it works fine.

It seems that ATT disables/prevents loading of Blackberry maps...I cannot get these to load from the BB site. It clearly notes that ATT does not support BB maps.

actually the 30 plan only covers the internet/email portion. its the 40 and 50 plans that cover the text, pic, and vid messages. the original 30 is still only using pay per use text, pic, and vid. it is well worth it if you are going to use all of it. when you think about the charges than can occur if you don't have it or have the wrong package.

you can install new themes for the curve, but most have a cost to them (some like 3.99).

crackberry.com is a good website as well as bplay.com
