It's because the two carriers have to diffrent networks they work with and the company is split in diffrent departments based by the commpany they are dedicated to)) **ie motorola has a IDEN team and a GSM team as well as a CDMA team and only very popular handsets will make it across all networks (like the razr for example)** so each company will get a completley diffrent array of handsets..
