Why are they still making phones that support analog when it is going to be shut down next year?

1 year is a long time from now and that will not be in every market, after 1 year customers can upgrade there phones to the current then "Wi-Max" and get a $75 rebate on the purchase price of a new handset. Until then you have to sell and support what the majority of the market towers in the USA are on the network. Analog Rocks if you set your phone to Roaming only, it doubles your coverage.

But analog also drains the battery faster. And really, CDMA is gradually covering the areas previously served only by AMPS, so the double coverage claim is probably dubious at best. 😛
