is this update done through the manufacture of the phone, or your cellphone service company. I know sprint has announced it for their mogul, but I don't see why the Verizon version wouldn't be able to be updated as well

any thoughts

The update is done through HTC and the carrier working together and it's usually released by both. HTC is willing, your carrier may not be. That's why Sprint has updated two or three times and Alltel hasn't updated at all.

I have also updated my rom. After many calls to Alltel and them not answering any of my questions, I decided to take care of it myself. They won't even tell me if they are even going to work on an update, let alone a possible release date. I am running an 'unofficial' rom.

No, No word yet from Microsoft of a release date. There was a ROM from (HTC). What you should be looking for is WM 6.1 update from (Microsoft). This should be found in System, Windows Update, "then" when "its" RELEASED, it would show up in this section. But not yet, Microsoft just anounced it would come up with an update by years end. But it will be before this year. Thats all what Microsoft has said.

PS HTC's update doesn't include WM6.1 update. 🙄

go to ppcgeeks.com

best forum out there. if you on VZW, i recommend checking out DCD's 3.0.4 ROM.

if you on any other carrier, i hear no2chem's newest build in banging.

make sure you upgrade to the official sprint radio (3.35), the official alltel radio (3.37) (recommended), or the unofficial sprint radio/ROM upgrade, which is due out officially june 1st, supposedly.

just search around there, and READ, READ, READ!!!

Can anyone please help me?

I am thinking of getting one of these VX 6800 or 6900. I have verizon, I really want it for the PDA/phone, and wi-fi. I have a network in my home and all my family members have it in their homes. Do I have to purchase a data package to use the wi fi? Verizon said it would use data and run up my bill if I did. i don't know what to do.
Please help.
Also, which model is better, the 6800 or 6900?
thanks

Billyd, I tried updating my XV6800 (Verizon), but I still get this error that GPS was unavailable. After all the updates, I ended up contacting verizon because my phone was no longer authenticated on their network. What internal settings (comm port) do I need to change?

I have been using Com 4. Make sure you go into your Location setting and make sure that the location is turned on not 911 only. Once you due that you should be fine. It might take a while for it to connect the first time. Use google map. The Authentication error is normal.

FINALLY!

I installed the update late last night.

Be aware that the phone may need to be re-authorized after the update. I could not make calls or get voice mail until I dialed #889 (?) this morning and had the support person "send an authorization code" to the phone.

Issues I have noticed:

1) MS Voice Command 1.6 (add-on app still!) does not work very well. I have a Plantronics Voyager 510 BT headset, and it seems a LOT less accurate in getting the names right when I say them. I say, "Call John Smith" and it comes up with "Wyland." Gee, that sounded close? Also, the volume when she asks for confirmation is faint, but not as faint as I think it was before.

2) BT now has crackling sound at times. Was dead quite before.

3) Not...
