Don't Hold Your Breath (for a US release)

The 9300 flopped terribly on at&t. We got very limited quantities and a majority of store still have them on hand and can't give them away. the Nokia 9000 series communicators are just not user friendly and they are ridiculously expensive.

Most stores will give a 9300 free if they still have one. As long as you sign up for the PDA connect plan. But it may vary by market, but I believe they are discontinued in all markets.

True...in preparation for the delivery of my E90, I bought the 9300 for $49.99 off the website. I figured this would give me a SIM configured with all the things I would need for the E90 (and it did just that). E90 arrived and 9300 has been boxed ever since.

I honestly THOUGHT the 9300 was a cool phone...nice "Communicator".

Was somewhat concerned about the E90 I had spent quite a chunk of change on.

Absolutely NO comparison!

Plus their decidedly brick-like weight and form factor.

The 9300 flopped because AT&T didn't release it until about a year after it had come out due mostly to the legal situation RIM was in at the time. So by the time the phones was being sold, the wireless world had completely moved on.

There's no question that the Communicator line (as it ran on the Series 80 platform) was not for everyone. The E90 probably isn't either, but the fact that it runs on Series 60 will probably make it much more appealing to people. Right now I'm happy switching between my N95 and my E61i, but this phone is really making me thing...

That's a funny typo. But I agree, the 9300 did show up to the PDA party waaaay late on Cingular. But like I said, it was very difficult to use and unattractive. It had a somewhat cool form factor, but the fact that it looked like a 6010 when it was closed didn't turn people on to it that's for sure.
