autonomous GPS

by Dixieland    Jun 13, 2007, 6:44 AM

one of the many things that attracted me to the Sanyo 7050 was it's "autonomous" GPS feature... it can pinpoint and readout user location even while not on the PCS network.

what troubles me, however, is that thus far all of my poking and prodding has shown no way that the user can EASILY and USEFULLY read this data. i have the option to output my GPS coordinates via NMEA protocol over USB or BlueTooth. great... just what i wanted to do... bring a laptop along with me while hiking if i wanna see where i am.

is there NO WAY that the user can simply enable the phone to display LAT/LONG coordinates right on the display panel? even if some aftermarket software product would do it i'd be interested.

still love the phone for other reasons... but i'm rather surprised that this one feature appears to be lacking, what with the phone being specifically marketed to users who want a "milspec" device... and the damn thing has a huge "GPS" logo stamped right on the cover.
