The iPhone hype is so intense right now, I think people will be buying this phone based on hype alone. I mean, is the phone really that great? My duty is to keep you informed regarding details we come across, so the more I read about the iPhone, the less I want it.
At a glance, the device looks fantastic, features sound fun, and there's no doubt this phone is the "it" phone this year. But realistically, would you pay $500-$600 for any other phone? Like many of you, I'm still debating whether to buy an iPhone or not, so I've compiled a list of cons (since the pros are obvious) just to give myself a reality-check come Friday night.
Price/Storage: Probably the biggest reason to wait is the price. The iPhone will retail in stores for $5...

How can you compare a device that has not even been released? I can tell you right now that Sprint's treo700p data speed screems on evdo. I can pull up webpages quick and easy and send and receive pictures quick aswell. Even steam live tv. Goodluck on iphone unless you have a wifi hotspot. With Sprint and my treo I can stream stuff on the way to work or when I travel... Iphone and at&t for the lose. 😎
...
thats true sprints killer data rates...
...
HSDPA is MUCH better that EV-DO. Runs faster and seperate from the voice channels so you don't glog the network and be on the web, send a message and talk on the phone at the same time. that is why it is used world-wide and not just 11 countries.
...
um, apparently you don't understand ev-do then, because it runs at identical speeds & is seperate from the voice, & who gives a sh*t about world-wide, i dunno about you but i live here, & if i'm traveling its to get away from everything not to have it in my face. AND the blackberry 8830 from verizon works on BOTH GPS & CDMA... so Boo-yeaaaa VZW 1 everyone else... keep trying. There is a reason no one attacks vzw in there commercials just the other networks because they don't work here or any where in the "world" they claim to cover
...
Ya you don't understand EV-DO it's not the same speed EV-DO Rev A is close. Second UMTS/HSDPA is a 2100 band not 850/1900 like Edge and EV-DO so on a ATT 3G you can dual function on a EV-DO device you can only do one at a time in fact Verizon posted an article about how they added a data call waiting so that it pauses your data when getting a voice call. Next goober GPS is not a network it's GSM and Verizon and Sprint wanted it to help challenge the world roam of GSM companies. Now I will agree a CDMA network is better network to use and Verizon Wireless althought there the number 2 company in the US they are the most profitable. If you don't know about networks look them up in the glossary located up top.
...
Wow, some people just don't get it.. If you don't like the phone,.. DONT BUY IT!!! Don't sit here and whine about it, don't say you know everything about phones and wireless when you don't.. I don't now everything but I do know that for what the iPhone is SUPPOSED to be its an amazing device. It works on all ATT wifi hot spots.. it work on edge which had been upgraded for the iPhone. True its not on 3G, yes its kinda disappointing, true it doesn't mms, kinda disappointing again, but you buy it to replace your phone and your ipod on the go.. you will probably still need your 80gb ipod when you go on vacation or long road trips.. but for every day use its perfect!! Yes its pricey and yes there is an added data plan, but compared to your treo ...

All the crap about how much the plan cost, long lines, The edge network, First generation, and all that other crap is something Verizon and sprint has been trying to think of and practicing to keep people from jumping ship. And is total BS.
$600 is not unheard of at all . I havent spent less than $400 per phone for the last 2years .
Look with At&T and T-mobile there are alot of us that pay top dollor for our phones and plans because we expect and get the best. Unlocked/ Unbranded SE , Nokia , and HTC phones and PDA's out does anything Verizon or Sprint phones have to throw at them period point blank. ( Can i get an Amen )
What is the Major turn off for this phone is all that storage space and you cannot put your won content on i...

If you are purchasing a phone because you want to show it off, then you would complain about Verizon. If you purchase a phone because you actually use it to make phone calls, then you would love Verizon.
Currently, my co-worker and I carry two phones. Verizon services both my work blackberry and personal phone. Verizon services my co-workers personal phone but AT&T services his blackberry. We travel quite a bit together and he HATES the service on his blackberry because there are so many places it does not get service. Verizon 95% of the time will have service everyplace he doesn't.
I would never choose a carrier based on the phones they carry. There are going to be a lot of people very unhappy when they leave their current s...

🤣 Seriously...you haters have GOT to get a life! I don't have an iPhone...I dont need an iPhone, and I dont WANT an iPhone...but PLEASE stop network bashing just to prove a point that your jealous of at&t having it. I travel all over the country with my job and I take vacations all over the US and I have at&t. I have NEVER run into a spot where I didn't have service and my fellow colleagues with the evil empire did. I wont bring up all gthe times the one guy with the ugly step child network(sprint) cant make calls. AT&T doesn't tack on an extra yr just for changing your plan and lets face it...the big"V"'s customer service sux. The iPhone isn't all that, but neither is verizon...get over it! 🤣
...
There is a reason CDMA/EV-DO is only used in 11 countries world wide and HSDPA/GSM is 82% of the world population.....Sprint released a statement recently that they were not going to worry about dropped calls anymore. Saying you may drop the call but where else can you down load a movie... 🤣
...
Hey! Thats a great advantage! 🤣 🤣 🤣
...
I have to agree with you. (and I dont have an iPhone either) I am so sick of these AT&T bashers. What cave do these people live in that they have such trouble with AT&T reception. I travel all over the world and the US and other than Japan, I ALWAYS have reception. I take the phone with me when I go hiking in the Cascades, and there are many places in the back woods where I don't have reception, but I am amazed how much of the time I do have coverage. It may have been true 10 years ago that GSM coverage wasn't great in the US, but that was 10 years ago. The funny thing is I know many of my co-workers have recently switched from Verizon to AT&T because they cant pick up the Verizon network at their home but they can pick up AT&T (Great...

to "rationalize" a purchase is wrong? you've never "rationalized" a purchase? Are you a compulsive buyer?
Why do so many people hate the iPhone? They can't afford it, so they'll try to find everything wrong with it.
Why do people buy it? Not to "look" cool, but to have a phone that fits function and form, with the world's best UI ever. It's not a PDA people. It's an entertainment unit with a cell phone attached. Stop comparing to crackberries.

😲
You do not have to sign a 2 year agreement to get the phone. I am an AT&T employee and we went to a meeting yesterday for the iPhone and it has been determined that you DO NOT have to sign a new 2 year agreement if you are an exsisting customer because you will be paying full price for the equipment.
...
true but dont you have to sign up for the two year data?
...
I am an AT&T employee, but I must have gone to a different training course than you.
...
Our Trainer and my manager both said anyone can buy without a commitment. the original plan was to only sell it with a commitment but AT&T revised that because of exsisting customers who have just upgraded.

I like the way that you use the word 'duty', like this is some higher purpose.

I've been dissapointed by every touch screen I've used. I consider touch sreen phones to be a subset of qwerty phones that have a BAD keyboard.
I don't know about you, but when I use the interweb I actually type. I bet the best words per minute you get on the IPhone is < 10 WPM.
>
...
Actually its not that bad i just got to play with one and it was pretty cool and i was actually able to type pretty quick.
...
you're right I have an MDA and the touchscreen sucks!
...
LMAO 🤣 your a t-mobile f@* and i bet your in the middle of a contract no wonder you down talk the iphone... you cant get one 😁
...
I have to say that I completely agree with you on this particular post. I'm sure that the phone is very nice, but I can't see where AT&T can justify having to sign a new 2 year agreement just for the privelege of buying the phone with absolutely no discount.
Furthermore, AT&T continues to try to rip off its customers buy requiring them to have unlimited data and pricier plans for as long as the IMEI assigned to this phone is on your account.
Last, but certainly not least, I don't understand how they can have the audacity to sell this phone for $599 when it is not even a 3G phone. To justify the hefty price of this phone, I would think that it would have to have the latest and greatest technology. It doesn't. Speaking as a former Cing...

EDGE is not less than dialup, nor is it equal to dial-up. EDGE is broadband 🙄
...
I don't see any bashing of the fact that all Blackberrys and all but one Treo are EDGE devices. So EDGE works well for them, but not the iPhone?
...
EDGE doesn't work well on anything. Once you have gone 3G, absolutely nothing will compare. Oh, and speaking matter-of-factly, EDGE doesn't even come close to broadband speeds. I worked for that lousy excuse for a company for three year. I know what I'm talking about.
...
really. . .? is umts really that much better than edge? I don't think my blackjack goes much faster in a umts area than an edge area. at&t has done a good job making their edge network available pretty much everywhere you can use your phone. Umts just drains your battery and hsdpa is only available in very few areas and yes it's pretty fast.

I am in the same boat as evilspanky99. I also purchase the creative vision w with 30gb and it is awesome. I am also using the lg vx9400 for my phone and I also love that. Between these two I am getting so much more for a lot less than that iphone that has hardly any memory, an idiotic touch screen, and of course the Apple label. How the hell can Apple put such a big price tag on something that is good for so little.
...
have you even looked at an iPhone?
...
I saw the pics and that's enough. There isn't anything about this thing they could justify the price even being half of what it is now. For 500.00 it better give me handjobs on a regular basis. I am very satisfied that I paid 199.99 for a device that does everything I need and with 7 times the amount of memory at one third of the cost.
...
oh, you have a phone with 56 gigs...? cool.
...
For those of us that actually know a thing or two about phones, looks really aren't everything. Then again, for the shallow types, they may be...
...
I agree with you. However I would also like to point out as a former customer of att and cingular. Their service is TERRIBLE!!! My husband had 20 dropped/call failure calls within 10 minutes. I got dropped constantly and the calls were distored. And when I would have service you couldn't use the features (had blackberry pearl). I like the iphone and I would probably want the next one generation just so that the bugs would be worked out and hopefully the price would go down. However I will never EVER be an att customer again. They rip you off on charges as well. They have verizon prices with worse the tmobile service. It just isn't worth it. What good is the iphone if you can't use it or its features.
my advice THINK TWICE.
...
I have been an AT&T/Cingular customer since 2000, now a rep. Very rarely have I had a dropped call, reception is great. My apartment is EDGE territory, but I work in 3G; got a Treo 680 and a SYNC that I switch back and forth.
In all honesty, the difference between EDGE and 3G doesn't seem to be all that great. I use Google Maps on both of them, on both networks with the SYNC, no real issues or hiccups.
I'm pleased with our customer service, and have done some traveling within the US. The only occasions I've had for complaints were back on my 1st Cingular phone, a Moto V180, I really, really don't get the Cingular/AT&T bashing.
...
Speaking as a former rep, Cingular (wait, I'm sorry, it's now the NEW AT&T) is the worst company I have ever dealt with or worked for. I have been in Tech Support (that's where you discover that Customer Care reps really are worthless and don't know a damn thing), Technical Information Group, Relocation, Combined Billing, and Click To Chat. Oh, I forgot to mention that I was also in the Leader Intern program. Indeed I know a thing or two about a thing or two. I'm smarter than your average bear (who, in fact is further up the evolutionary ladder than your typical, useless Customer Care rep). Perhaps before you start insulting our intelligence or boasting about Cingular's customer service (or glaring lack thereof), you should do your homework....

nope. I'm just saying I'm a pleased customer. My phone (now that I hurled the V180 into the landfill) works fine, data works fine. I don't have features I don't want, have the features that I do.

So you are correct when it comes to adding up the costs with the iphone but did your buddy Chris do the research when it comes to adding up the cost with any other PDA/Smartphone over the 2yrs?! Assuming he didn't you would realize that the iphone over the corse of 2yrs is about the same for anyother PDA. Lets say for the blackjack for instance. You can buy it on a 2yr contract right now and it is $175, but the data plan is 39.99 per month, plus the base voice plan which is 39.99 for the next 2yrs it ends up being $2095. That really sounds like the same to me, and if you do the rebate that is $100 that would be $1995.99 whch sounds like, well the same as the iPhone. So where you at now sukka! LOL doche bag
