iPhone contract at the Apple Store?
Does anyone know if we will need to sign a 2yr contract with AT&T to purchase the iPhone from a apple store this coming up friday? 6/29

I'm curious about these three purchasing options:
- physical AT&T store
- physical Apple store
- online Apple store
What exactly is the difference? I'm guessing if you go the AT&T store route, they will force you to renew your contract, slap you with a fee, etc. Or you can just go to Apple or apple.com and buy it (4GB=$499, 8GB=$599) no hassle.
Now the question is, if I buy it on apple.com.. do I still have to go into an AT&T store to get it activated or set up? Can I just put my current AT&T/Cingular SIM card in the iPhone? How is Visual Voicemail going to work?? (I understand that's a special feature..and I've heard it requires some account configuration that AT&T has to do)

The phone will not work unless at&t activates it with whatever the iPhone plan is. The SIM card is pre installed, thus you cannot insert you existing SIM into it. Also, I do not believe it will be available online initially.
