I returned my i760 today

😢 I tried for two weeks to make it work, but the following were unacceptable, so I had to go back to my E815:

1) Terrible reception. My i760 dropped at least 10 calls per day. I got dropped calls at home, at the office and on the drive in between... is this normal for an i760?? Are others having this problem?

2) Voice recognition was completely worthless. With my E815 I could dial by name or by number flawlessly out of the box. The voice dialing on the i760 was worthless and I could not find anywhere to train it to my voice.

There were a lot of things I liked about the phone, like the numeric keypad on the outside, which I used often because the voice commands did not work...

These are the two that made the phone a N...

I agree with the last two posters, the Voice Command works very well in this unit; better than the XV-6700, and much better than my T-Mobile Wing (their version of the XV-6800). For some reason on my T-Mobile Wing, the Voice Command can't "hear" me and is delayed by a few seconds whenever I use it. Is this similar to what you were experiencing?

I haven't had any issues with dropped calls on this unit (any more than my XV-6700 before this).

I seem to lose voice command when the phone is set to vibrate and I am on my Bluetooth. No problems when the phone is set to ring. Any ideas?

I think it has something to do with Bluetooth 2.0 and the way the volume is now controlled independently of any Bluetooth headset. I.e., if the bluetooth volume is turned all the way up on the headset, but the volume is all the way down on the phone, you won't hear anything on the headset (or it will be very, very low).

I think what is happening is a programming bug. The "outbound" volume going to the headset has been effectively "muted" although I'll bet it is still functioning.

Try this: while using your bluetooth headset, watch the screen as you hold down the voice command button. You should see the microphone icon (voice command) appear at the top of the screen to the left of the time and other icons. When (if) you do, speak a...

I DO get the microphone icon when I activate via bluetooth but I do not get the "connected" tone. I have tried speaking commands when the icon comes on, but it does not work. One time I switched to ring, connected and called via bluetooth and while still on the call, switched back to vibrate. Under those circumstances, the bluetooth kept working fine, with an audible (in my headset) connection tone.

Another question, I have about the Voice Command 1.6 is: If you listen to the demo on Microsoft's web site, it sounds totally different (and much, much better) than on the Samsung. It features a clear speaking voice and great responsiveness. Is it the same product?

I think it is definitely something with the way bluetooth was implemented on the Samsung.

I checked the Voice Command website and that is how it sounds on my Samsung.

I would recommend returning the Samsung and getting the HTC XV-6800 now that it is FINALLY available at Verizon. You may have a malfuncitoning unit.

ok, so maybe I will try a different i760, to see if I just got a bad phone. Anyone else have these issues?

It really is the phone you have. I have no drop calls and sounds great. The phone is good so far. I have had it for little bit over a month.

You may just want to have them change the phone for another one.

I was looking for some info about my samsung and I can't believe I found this thread.

I upgraded from my Motorola e815 on 12/1/07 to a samsung i-760 through verizon. I opted for the unlimited data plan. Now, I was using the phone via my bluetooth connection in my car and had multiple dropped calls in areas I could use my 815 reliably. I took my samsung inside my house and had only 2 or three bars with poor call quality when checking my voice mail.

While looking online, I found many users having no problems so I assumed I had a bad phone. I went to verizon but they had no more units to perform an exchange. I returned it and reactivated my 815, with perfect reception.

I am reordering a samsung i760 to see if it was just that un...

The following is from Samsung's FAQ section under support for the Verizon i-760

-- BEGIN PASTE --

Does My SCH-i760 Support Voice Dialing?

Yes, Microsoft® Voice Command┞¢ is advanced speech recognition software that allows users to speak commands to perform common functions supported by the SCH-i760 handset. There is no voice training required to use the voice command feature. Speak contact names or phone numbers naturally to dial, and use voice commands to launch applications and navigate phone menus. Tip: Only talk when the microphone icon is displayed.

I have to say, the voice recognition on this phone SUCKS! I have "Mom" listed in my phone, I try to get it to call mom, it goes through ten other names that aren't even close!

I have an E815 Moto and the voice recognition worked so well I never had to repeat myself. This phone never gets it right, I have tried to speak closer to the mic, then farther from it, nothing works on the first time unless you have a first and last name listed.

At this point I would almost rather voice tags, even though that is antiquated technology, it's better than this! I have switched the phone out already for a new one, they all work the same way, bad VR.
