Recording sounds as ringtones

It seems like a simple thing to do... I can't find any sound recorder except inside of Notes. I think I should be able to record a sound clip and turn it into a ringtone. Does this require a piece of software not included with WM6 Pro on the Samsung SCH-i760?

Go to Notes, make your recording, then set it as a ring tone. You can do this by holding the stylus on the specified recording and selecting "Set as ring tone"

Huh! I didn't see that coming. I thought the file format for a note would preclude it's use as a ringtone. Now that I'm proven wrong, I'm compelled to wonder why a Note file with an embedded recording shows up twice in my list of notes (with two different icons) and either one can be set as a ringtone. The good news is that a Note file without a recording CAN'T be made into a ringtone.

I know I probably shouldn't question these things and should simply thank Wildcat for a very snappy and valid response. Thanks.
