Is there a way to minimize battery drain when the signal is not strong? At work although the phone works the signal is very low and the battery drains w/in an 8 hour period even if not in use.
Thanks for any help you can provided

do a search for "code" and see what comes up. never know what might happen if you actually show some initiative.

I get it that geeks get annoyed at people asking how to do things, but come on man, when you tell someone to access a secret menu, tell the poor guy how to accomplish this in the same breath. And yo man, don't be so dickish...the dude asked for the code, just give it to him and move on with your rather bitter life. Google that shat.

even if you turn ev-do off, if your 1x is searching for service, your battery will still drain. I live out in the boondocks, and this happens to me constantly. Your best bet? Turn your phone off.

all cell phones do this. it takes alot of power to constantly search for service. i learned this when visiting a remote place in the mountians. i had a vx8600 and the battery wasn't the best shape as it is and it could go down to half in under 2 hours without calling out.

secret code is ##77647268700send then 000000 for password , this will put you into the programming menu, from there you can tweak some settings, don't screw with to much or something you will not remember how to set back, from in there you can set how it will read the network, thus turning evdo off. For the person who asked what evdo is, it is Verizons broadband Internet on your phone. You must have this service to stream vcast videos and it causes all data features like mobile web run much faster. If you don't use that crap then it is just draining your battery as it pulls that signal so taking it off can save a little battery, especially on a fringe area where you may switch back and forth between 1x and evdo. Turning bluetooth off will al...

still checking for replies??? -Here's how digital cell phone signals work:

The more signal you have the less power the phone requires to operate. Also, as your phone sits in standby, the same is true... more signal=less battery drain. Less signal=sucks your battery dry faster than you can blink.

There is nothing you can do. This is how it works. Your only option (if you need your phone ready for your next call) is to turn it off when you know you are in such areas for extended periods of time.

Oh, actually, there is another option... phones now all come with lithium ion batteries that never suffer memory effects, so you can get a spare charger and plug it in at work so it is always charged 😁
