I was really impressed with the features of this phone. The exception is the speaker and speaker phone, the quality is poor. That said I bought the phone for features and looks, but the camera was most important and I thought it performed extremely well. The camera has since been rendered useless as it now has fine scratches on the lens which give the pictures a foggy appearance. It seems the front screen display and the camera lens are both plastic which I believe should have been harden glass for phone in this price range. I purchased a case however the camera lens was still exposed. i kept mine in the black pouch, no issues whatsoever.

I do have a suggestion though, if you call lg you can probably just order a new faceplate, I beleive the lense is connected. It is a little tricky to take apart though, 2 of the screws are under the inside screen cover so you need to peel of the screen without breaking the glass, asfter that it is a cake walk to swap the face plate.

You could probably take your phone to Verizon store and they could swap the cover for free if someone had just happened to turn-in an 8700 for replacement. I never had a problem at my local store with any such issues they would just say let me see if we got one in back and swap whatever part out for free, but of course all techs aren't the same.

Go to VZW and give them some BS that they can't check. Tell them you want to swap the phone. I did that with my 8100. Told them the the phone ramdomly shut off.

Same here. I have exchanged this LG8700 TWICE in three months with the exact same issue. It's not scratches, it's almost like a film that develops on the lens itself, possibly on the inside. Other than the lens, my phones have been pristine on exchange.

but, inevitably, within 30-45 days, my pics are totally foggy.

I too bought this phone because of the "nice 2.0 mega-pixel camera" I think this is an "issue" with the phone itself. Of course verizon says, "they've never seen this problem before" as I've had to exchange it TWICE. But, somehow I knew if I got on a forum, I would find that I am not the only one out here with this problem.

I too have a nice soft case and i take very good care of my phones.

Replacing the phon...
