If I do not use the teeny broswser to surf the limited sites..and since dropped mobile 2.0 do I need EVDO? It is a battery drain and can be disabled.

Maybe for the GPS Nav system as I do use that?

I think you may be a little confused on what EVDO actually is. EVDO is actually the type of tower that you are pulling off of. If a tower has been upgraded to Rev 0 or Rev A capability then you will be in an EVDO area which reduces latency on your phone and provides more benefits if you have vcast or use your handset for tethering. For instance the town I live in is NOT EVDO so my status indicator on my phone in the upper left corner says 1x which is my coverage. Thanks for reply. Yes I figured out that EVDO is not required my nav program. However since I don't use Vcast nor any other feature that EVDO provides or makes "faster or better"...I disabled it.

The consensus opinion is .and appears so ..that it does consume extra juice from battery.

If I could figure out how to disable it in a Samsung Sch U540 I would do it also.

Thx

Just an observation on my part:

I shut off the EVDO but when I did a *228 PRL (roaming list) update, it re-sets the phone back to Hybrid mod and in essence turns EVDO back on.
