8600 or 8700?

I currently have a VX8100, which is finally dying on me. I am stuck between picking the VX8600 and the VX8700. I don’t use many of the extra features of the phone. I make phone calls, take pictures, and send/receive about 3000 text messages a month.

I know the VX8600 can view texts on the front screen, and the VX8700 can't, which does disappoint me, but I can deal with that. Overall, from those that have had both phone, which one is better for phone calls, pictures, texting, and overall?

I am going to buy one of these phones by the end of the week.

With your requirements I don't know why you are not getting the Samsung u740. Yes the keys are small but read the reviews. Most are accomodating to the small keys very easily. PLUS, you get a much larger outside screen with phot IDs coming through beautifully and the ability to talk or answer the phone with it closed. Can't do that with the 8700.

New here. Trying to decided between the 8600 & 8700 for 3 days now. I want the biggest pic possible to show pics from SD card, good hearing, thin, rare video & low light picture taking.
I don't understand why nobody(Verizon) can explain the huge talk & standby time differences between the two.
Also a little ticked that, as the 2nd on a family plan, my purchase will cause a 2 yr re-up, but I don't get the NE2 discount, only 50. We have been on VerizonWireless for 20 yrs. Ought to be getting all kinds of loyalty perks. Uh-huh...sure!!
Maybe I should wait a few months.
The Samsung u740 seems really nice!! But I was quite concerned about the tiny keys.

As far as these phones go the 8600 has a better outside display, play keys on the fromt for music.

The 8700 has the better build quality, looks and camera

If you are not getting the instant $100 renewal discount because you are not primary under the plan AND the Primary member hasn't used the discount, no problem. I ran across the same problem in a Verizon Store in the Houston area. The salesperson simply switched me to primary (instead of secondary) sold me the Samsung u740 and after all discounts and rebates my total cost was only $3.60 for the Tax. He then swithched the numbers back to where I was secondary again. Where there is a will, there is a way.
