VX-8600 or VX-8700 ?

Pros: The 8700 has BT 2.0 (stereo) and a 2 megapixel camera, while the 8600 has BT 1.1 and a 1 megapixel camera.

Cons: The 8700 weighs a bit more than the 8600 and has a shorter projected battery life.

Are there any other differences that I should consider in choosing between the two phones? The reviews for the 8600 are consistently good while the 8700 hasn't been out long enough to have consistent reviews.

I just bought an 8600, then found out about the 8700 and am going to return my 8600 for the 8700 when it's in stores. In any case, the looks are completely different - I hate how fingerprinted the 8600 has gotten in the short time I've had it. Additionally, the added texture to the keypad should help with texting. Those are my main reasons, along with the improved camera, for upgrading.

After playing with an 8700 yesterday I would say get that over the 8600. The 8700 is sweet. I hate thin phones but loved this thing. 8600 is ok but now i'm rethinking my next phone after seeing the 8700.

So I am due for an upgrade...I have had my 8100 for 2 years already and I have never had any problems, but I think I am ready for something different.

I need help in deciding between the 8600 and 8700. I just noticed that Verizon dropped the 2 yr price of the 8600 to 129.99, so with my $50 online discount and new every 2 discount of $50, I'll only be paying $30. So that's a definite plus. But I like the 2.0 mp camera on the 8700 and the silver finish, although I think it looks a little similar to the Razr (I never liked the Razr because it seemed like everyone had it). So the following are my concerns on the 8700:

1. Several questions about the vertical screen, since I'm not used to that. What comes up on the screen besides the tim...

I have the 8700. I did not get the 8600 bc of the fingerprint issue and reviews re speaker phone.

As to your questions, I can answer some.

1. I don't think you can change wallpaper on vertical screen but there are color choices and clock types (analog vs digital) and directional choices. Yes there is picture ID.
2. Yes you can set up ringer ID.
3. Speaker phone only with phone open and only after dialing the call.
5. I don't have a really "tally" yet, but with bluetooth and EVDO turned off, seems to last quite a while. I will give a more quantitative answer soon.

And, the phone is great looking and is not a finger print magnet.

Thanks so much for the input! I couldn't wait any longer, so I picked up the phone today. I have played around with a little bit and made a couple of calls, and so far I like it. I am still debating whether or not to keep it, but I figure the 30 day trial to figure it out. My thoughts so far:

1. Still trying to get used to the positioning of the "clear" button and the flushness of the keypad. I think it will take a few days to adjust.

2. I wish the directional keypad around the "ok" button had the icons for get it now, web, etc like my 8100 did. I will just have to remember which direction does what.

3. Camera is great, I guess there is a stabilizing feature that "stills" a moving object?

4. Ringer volume seems rather l...

Good luck.

Yes, sometimes it gets hot (sometimes it doesn't). Try not holding your hand over the lower part (which is where the antenna is).

I covered mine with an invisible shield. However, did not do a good job and it took me forever. Just sent the phone off to ShieldZone where they will do the re-covering for me. However, I did NOT get lots of smudges. Just want to protect it.

You can send yourself ringtones. I am playing the Temptations and they are much louder than the rings that came with the phone.

My 30 days just ended and I am in for the long (2 year) run.

Oh maybe I did cover the antenna part and that's why the phone got hot. So far I do like the phone. I think really I like the looks of it more than anything else.

I just ordered the data cable on Ebay, so I will start using Bitpim to transfer ringtones, pics, etc. So I'm assuming you send ringtones via text messages?

So this invisible shield, is it similar to the plastic stickers that come on the phone when you buy it? How much did ShieldZone charge you to do that?

And thanks for input!

It is a clear plastic (7 pieces in all) that cover variaous parts of the phone. You can search for Invisible shield at Shieldzone.com and see a video of it.

The shield costs 24.95. They charge another $10 to put in on for you and of course, if you don't live in Utah, you are without your new phone (switch back to the old) for a week or so. I have just sent mine out so I don't know yet how their job compares with mine (but I am sure it is better). You might be better at it than I am.

I sent myself tones from a site called myxer.... (not exactly sure of full name, offhand) and received as pix, saved as ringtone. Very cool.
And free at myxertones, so just a 25 cent charge receiving it.

Good luck.
