Do you have to have a data plan for this phone?

Ok this may be a stupid question but need to know. This phone looks really good. I used to carry a PDA and gave it up. With fire department pagers, phone and pda it was way too much to carry around.

Have been looking at the Voyager and my friends have the Env. I like both but if I can go with this phone, have a some sort of PDA with and stay on a regular phone plan we might have a winner for me.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Ok, I have answered my own question. Now maybe I will just show my disappointment. I would like a phone such as this one that has some sort of pda that I can text, send pics and such and do not have to have a bloody data plan with!!!

Is that too much to ask for?

It's not too much to ask for 🙂 You can get this phone without also having to get a data plan. These types of phones stay connected so Verizon just has to block the data for you. Customer Service can set it up.

**My contract wasn't up yet but Verizon gave me an extra $100 discount in addition to the $50 mail-in rebate and $200 online savings (from retail) just for signing up for a Data plan. If that's a discount you're eligible for you might want to try the data plan for a month and switch to a voice plan later.

When I worked AZ. DPS and the City Fire Dept., I know exactly what your talking about. I had both the LG 8100 and the XV6700 at the time with the same issues you've mention. Then ironically that's when the Moto. Q came out which was the perfect answer to my "Deli ma" at the time. But w/ any smart phone / PDA you do need some sort of a Data plan to cover the OS, which is much different then your typical cell phone sporting a Brew / WAP network. VZW does have a number of Data plans, varying in MB a month type of packages, with the Unlimited Data plan obviously being the largest, Most practical and safest in my opinion, Because it can get Very expensive if you were to go over your limited MB in a month, kinda like going over your minutes, but...
