-what folder do music files for the media player (bluetooth) need to be in? They can be put in the Media or music folders. If you put them in the media folder they'll play through the media player, music folder will cause them to play from the Sprint music store.

-also, what file format (extension) do they need to be, so that the phone recognizes them?
Mp3, or aac.

-while we're on the subject, is it possible to use files on the memory card as ring tones or alarm ringers, and if so, how?
You can't. You have to upload them through the web and download them to your phone. I think you might be able to with the sync.
