What is the difference

I am not going to lie. This is a very attractive phone. But besides the appearance, what is the difference between this phone and the RAZR V3m that is offered by Verizon Wireless? They both have a mega-pixel camera, removable memory, and the ability to play music. Granted, this phone can play MP3 and ACC files, and the V3m plays only WMA files, but is that really a big deal? I guess I am a little disappointed in Motorola. I was expecting a little more innovation. ☹️

It is the first motorola handset to support HSDPA in the US. It will support cingular video. it is truly the update to the V3. Previous RAZRs have still lacked in data connectivity. It also has a larger display and internal memory. The V3i was already out of date when it hit the shelves. This one is a strong competitor for the latest devices sync and the CU500 and provides an option for Motorola fans. This is just the beginning of 3G Motorola devices in the US.

Cingular chose to pick this up instead of the MAXX. I think Motorola only put this out because they were already making it for NTT Docomo. As this is the first RAZR in japan, the design is not outdated over there. I think Cingular made a poor choice just choosing the cheaper of the two (xx vs. maxx) since it's almost identical in appearance to the razr they carry that free on most contracts. The max brought a beautiful new design to the table that people could have actually gotten excited for.

Actually Motorola has had 3G phones in the US for quite some time. The E815, Hollywood, and RAZR V3m are all 3G CDMA phones with EVDO.

Now regardless what all of the haters in here say, i have nothing but GOOD luck and experience with Motorola's. I do agree however that this design is out of date and cannot wait for the newer V6 Maxx and the Ve (CDMA version).

Those will feature a newer clamshell design (still thin), larger QVGA screens, New and updated User Interfaces, longer battery life and even better 3/3.5G support.

BTW I have a RAZR V3mm (Amp'd), which runs the standard Moto UI. I couldnt be happier.

this is GSM forum, we really weren't refereeing to CDMA EV-DO equipment. the fact is, motorola makes more GSM phones than CDMA and to just now put EDGE back in their phones and to make boring UMTS/HSDPA devices is just sorry on their part. plus the quality of their GSM equipment is abysmal!

Steve:

You're right. EVDO blows the doors off anything available today in US for data speed.

But I'm hoping that the Ve update to the CDMA RAZR will have Rev A EVDO - vs. Rev 0 today. The upload speed of Rev 0 is still kind of slow.

I'm not sure I understand some of this criticism.

The Razr series is an extremely popular phone for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it's a phone that's very easy to always have with you, if you are somebody who always needs a phone (and not a PDA or mini computer).

It only makes sense that Motorola would have a 3G phone that bases its external design and features on the extremely popular Razr.

I think, too, that Motorola did well to stay slightly behind the bleeding edge when it comes to developing 3G WCDMA phones, as evinced by some of the horrible criticism received by the CU500 and the Sync.

I wonder if the critics would have been happier with a 3G release of the K1 coming first instead of a 3G release of t...

you must not look at the samsungs much. 🤣 QVGA screens at 262K. the criticism is due to the lack of quality and new ideas. the original v3 was a great idea 3 years ago! people do like new designs with new technology built in with it. motorola just doesn't live up to the price they demand for their equipment. the a707 may have it's issues, but it still out performs the v3i & the k1, and it's cheaper! Oh yeah, it has a QVGA 262k screen. 😉

Cingular owes me two upgrade phones. Maybe I'll get a Sync A707 just to see what you're talking about.
