SMS converting to MMS?!
Okay, so after having this phone for almost two weeks I couldn't have been more happy...until today.
Is anybody else having problems with this phone converting all SMS messages into MMS messages? Despite the length of the text--it could be 10 characters or 250--the phone automatically converts the message into an MMS before it is sent.
This hasn't happened for nearly two weeks and all of a sudden it changed. I triple and quadruple checked the settings and everything is as it should be.
Needless to say, I'm very annoyed and would love it if anybody could help me out. Thanks!

Each time I choose to "create message" which by default is always set to be an SMS message, I can type the entire message out as an SMS (it counts out the characters and everything) but as soon as I hit "Send To" it converts it into an MMS message and measures the size in kilobits. It also reads "Send To MMS" at the top of the screen when it takes you to the contact list after typing the message.
Not to mention I've had several complaints about sending pure text to my friends via MMS message. I mean, it's not something they're not going to notice.

Have you set up some sort of signature? Are you inserting anything other then text? Motorola has instituted a "unified message composer" that will change to the appropriate message format based on the content that you are inserting. If you added a signature with a picture or something other then text, the phone will switch to MMS as that is the only format that will support that content.

Nope, none of that. But problem solved...Cingular replaced the defective handset.
