Display remains on while on charger

Whenever I plug in the charger, the display lights up and remains in its bright mode until the charger is unplugged. It does this when I use the travel charger, car charger or USB adapter. It doesn't go to dim and it doesn't turn off (even when it becomes fully charged). If open, the large display is lighted, if closed, the small screen is lighted. This is annoying as I normally charge the phone each night and I'm old enough I don't need a night light. Is there any way to turn this off without turning off the phone itself?

I found the solution...Turn the phone upside down. That is what I have been doing with my Sanyos for years, this is not the first phone that they have released with this annoying effect

That's what I've been doing also. I will retract my comment about it remaining bright, it does dim, but it still doesn't seem to make much sense to provide for screen savers to prevent screen burn-in, then make the device so that it's display remains on for such a lengthly time. I've also discovered that even turning it off doesn't help. Even when off, if charging is displays a message saying it's off and charging. When it finishes chargeing, it displays a message saying it's off and it's charged. How dumb is that?
