But it seriously is like 1mm of play in the hinges. Its not that big a deal. If its that big an issue test it out for 30 days or let someone who already has one show you theirs. I personaly love the phone, and have yet to make a complaint about it.

The hinges in the M1 are the same type they use in every sanyo. I have owned 5 of their clamshell phones, and have never had a problem with the hinges. I don't feel Sanyo has tried to get away with anything, it will be a sad day when they don't make phones anymore.

I agree. This phone is almost flawless except for the loose hinges. It makes the phone feel very cheap. Anyway, is there anything that can be done to fix the problem. I talked to a sanyo rep and they told me that the hinge is not covered under the warranty! Errr.

They are not covered under warranty, because there is nothing wrong with them. I have about 25 assorted clamshell phones at my disposal, and every one of them does the exact same thing. What I am noticing is that the detection of supposed flaws is directly proportional to the price of the phone, verses apparent flaws which are inversely proportional to the price of the handset. I put my M1 up against a digital caliper, and the top most part of the clam moved less that 1mm in either direction. If you want hinges that are perfectly tight, you run the risk of breaking something when they bind up, there has to be some play in them. There was already another thread abouth this exact same topic, I think it has been officailly beaten into the groun...

I see this as an overreaction. I have the phone. It's pretty terrific. No different than any other flip phone. Don't know that Sanyo "got away" with anything other than delivering another nice phone.
