Treo 680 Nightmare

NYPsy

I'm new to Cingular and I recently purchased a Treo 680. Everything went fine for the first 3 days. After this, my nightmare began. The phone constantly lost contact with Cingular, losing all of my bars with strange symbols appearing across the top. I had to factory reset this phone at least 4 times per day in order to reacquire a signal. I have done this everyday since last Monday. I lost ALL of my data and programs, by the way. I use this phone for business and lost a ton of client information due to the factory resets (which never happen immediately after I hotsync, of course).

I tried to exchange the phone for the 8525. Every Cingular store I called had one in stock, until I went there and told them my issue. Then, in a matter...

Welcome to Cingular and lets see if you will hopefully stay. I have always been told that 3-5% of all phones made are lemons so you can always send back your 680 for another one. I would def. try another 680 first and if you dont like it then call cingular and let them know. At that point, pay the diff. from the 680 to the 8525 and use the 8525. I'm sorry that stores have been like that, prolly because 8525 has limited availability at this moment. Just give Treo 680 and Cingular another try and if not satisfied then cancel within your 30 day trial period.

My problem with that is that if I try another 680 and it's also a "lemon," then I am completely screwed and have to pay top dollar for a functioning phone. Add that to the insult of being lied to by 3 Cingular stores who all stated that had the device over the phone, put one "on hold" for me and magically lost their stock within moments of my arrival. I am pretty much done with the horrendous customer service that this company has to offer and want nothing to do with yet another Palm fiasco.

Cingular's policy on defective phones is to replace them 3 times. After getting your 3rd replacement, you'd be offered to get an equivalent model, and could (if you've really had 3 lemons & it's documented on the account) easily leverage that to exchange for a different model. I've seen it done, and have been part of the transaction several times, so I know it's possible.

The Treo 680 is certainly not as cool as some other devices, but not every single one of them will be a brick.

That may work on the low end phones, I have had the BlackBerry 8700c replaced four times and they won't go to a different one.
Cingular Business Customer Service says " If past the 30 days you have to buy a different phone". They will continue to replace the high end models with a "rebuilt" one for a period of one year.
Good Luck.

I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now and love it. I must say the battery life is way shorter than the 650, but no big deal. I feel sorry for you brother. While most of you are waiting for this phone at your local Cingular store, its well worth the wait. I got mine the day it came out and can't put it down. I wish Cingular could over Telenav GPS withouth a 3rd party hardware device. My old NEXTEL offered GPS over the air tracking me through my antenna. Well enjoy the phone and the holidays

Well, I work for Cingular Wireless customer service. How long have you had this phone? I suggest if you've had it less than 30 days, call customer care...what state do you live in, I do Northeast care. Honestly, if you're having trouble with a phone, you should be able to return it. Don't let them talk you out of it, because some departments will, tell them you are not satisfied and OMG the one thing that will get you what you want, I hate to say, and you didn't hear it from me, but threaten to cancel...they really start working with you when you do that, especially if you've been with us a long time. If you were on the phone with me, I know I'd help you already. Whatever you do though, never uptalk other businesses, like when people start s...

I am still within my 30 days but consistently got the run around. I didn't start shouting "I'm going to Verizon" in my conversations with any of the customer service reps. I did tell them that I switched just to purchase this phone and use their international service (I travel a number of times a year and Verizon is useless in those situations).

I told 3 department managers in 3 different stores that I was dissatisfied. I am in the New York city area. Everyone of them told me that the phone was in stock when I asked over the phone, but the stock disappeared when I got to the store. Some tried to sell me something else, some told me the phones were "on hold" for other people. This was never offered to me. To me, that's a problem. ...

Hi...
Its interesting. I also just purchased the 680 and I am awaiting it in the mail. I am currently a Verizon customer in NYC and wanted to try the phone so I decided to switch to Cingular and give it a shot. Now I am concerened based on what you posted.
I am also worried because Verizon's servivce in NYC is very good and I am wondering what Cingular's is like. Please respond if you have any thoughts.
Alexander.

When using the phone (when it worked), I never had a problem with reception. The signal was good and the phone was quite loud. Everyone I spoke to agreed that my problem was a hardware problem, not a service problem.

heh im a cingular customer rep also. the best way u can get a new 680 is just call them and u want replacement and request return label. we will order you return label and once we receive the phone, they will credit your billing acct automatically. so u don't have to pay the amount when u switch. ur charge will show on ur billing statement but once the warehouse receive ur device, they will credit the amount from the first phone.
p.s. like aneverdyinglove said, do not, never say that u will just go to some other carrier...most times i just tell customers that "you are more than welcome to do so" if someone say that to me...-_-; just be nice and patient, customer reps are ppl and have feelings too, if u treat then nicely, u will receive ...

My gripe with the phone was the inconsistency of its connection to the service. I am in a business where I have to be available by phone at any given time. To have a phone that disables itself and requires me to erase all of the data collected on it (including client contacts and appointments) seems to work against the purpose. From my own research on the net, I am not the only person with this problem either.

My gripe with the customer service was the consistent runaround that I had gotten when I wanted to switch phones. While my level of respect for sales reps is very high (as I am in a similar business), this begins to plummet when I am lied to and sent on a wild goose chase all over the city because these said sales reps do not...
