Just horrible!

Just purchased the 680 as an "upgrade" from my old 650. What a mistake! Battery life is significantly shorter. Its nearly impossible to answer a call when I pick it up out of my holder. Everytime I pick it up, it denies the call. I installed a well respected program from Iambic and now the "phone" soft key no longer goes to my phone. 2 way text messaging no longer goes to the Chat interface, and refuses to view the message when i click on it.

I am highly disappointed with this phone, and regret ever buying it. Palm has lost a longtime customer to a more manageable Windows-based device.

armyofun-

outside of a 3rd party product that you installed that messed everything up, what about it makes it sux way more than the 650? I can deal with a shorter battery as that is not a problem for me. I used to have a 650 and except for the constant resetting, I loved it. Now have a 8125 but am looking to make the jump back to treo 680.

So tell me what else you didnt like about this phone.

Thanks.

I also plan on buying the 680. I went into a cingular store to try the 680 out before I buy it. The only 2 things I can complain about is that it is hard to take out the stylus (new styluses should come out later) and the keyboard is cramped for my big hands. I have never used a treo before so I can assume the keyboard will get some getting used to.

Other then that its great. Very snappy, fits well in your hand and to the ear, smaller then I realized, easy to use for first timer. A little thick compared to other smartphones but it is so comfortable and the touchscreen is so easy to use, you wont notice.

I cant afford a data plan so high speed is of no use for me. I need something with good reception and that i can organize with. The ...

Went to cingy store today and they were out of 680's but a rep had one so I dabbled for a lil bit. Browser is so much better than on 650. While its only EDGE, inet ran smoother than 8125 due to faster processor. I absolutely loved the form factor. It feels smaller in my hand than the 8125 just to give you an idea. The screen looks a little more clearer and brighter. You dont get that boxy feeling like you do with the 650. Besides that, phone was pretty similar to 650. If you liked the 650 except for some of the software shortcomings then you will really like the 680.

Thanks guys for all your help. I currently have the 8525, but realize im paying close to $500 for things i will never use. The 680 is much more logical for me, and I thank you for your help!

Glad to help, I went to a cingular store today and they said that the treo 680 is out of stock almost everywhere. Good luck finding one, looks like palm is going to do ok this holiday season.

I just called Airport Wireless at the Phila. Airport and bought a crimson 680 with free overnight shipping. You would do better buying an locked one from a Palm Retailer over the phone than waiting for Palm.com to ship one.

Like the others have you tried the 680 with just the onboard applications?
If so how does it work?
Is it able to re-install the original OS?
Was TechSupport helpful?
Any other information?
How would you compare it to the BlackBerry 8700c?
