I'm going to assume you're being sarcastic - this phone doesn't have wifi. 😉

You are correct. Do you ever wonder why Cingular doesn't include Wi-Fi when they could if they wanted to? (eg- Cingular sells the NOKIA E62 instead of the E61?)

Actually no, it's to keep cost down. When we first discussed the e61/62, part of the agreement to bring it on board was that it would have to retail for under $200 w/ a 2 year contract. Same thing with the Black Jack, the 3125 & the Treo 680. Thats also the reason the HSDPA/UMTS and Camera were stripped from the E62 as well.

I hope you are kidding...

But if you really don't know it's because they want you to get a data plan. You get wifi and your cheap ass prosumer self won't opt for the data plan and get their ARPU up.

Yes, it's true that carriers benefit from data subscribers, and yes, there is some incentive on their part to be offer phones that have features that can make them money, but the fact is - Cingular doesn't make these decisions, the manufacturers do. It's not like the phone makers have the ability to make every phone wifi/3G/A2DP/etc enabled, and are stopped from doing so because the carriers make them. They make changes based on what sells. The E62 is a perfect example - the changes were make to make the phone a better seller, not to cripple it's abilities. This phone as well - it's main attraction is 3G, wifi would be an afterthought, and almost unnecessary.

Very true, and if anyone really did their research they would find that 97% of the people that purchase devices that due include the wifi, STILL purcahse date plans for their devices. When people purchase date centric devices, they purchase data rate plans as well, wifi or not.

my apologies for typing fast in my last post, I meant "do" include wifi and STILL purchase "data". 😲

Exactly! Most people that want these phones want their data wherever they can get it, so they would get the data plan anyway since wifi isn't universal.

I work for Cingular, and I know they suck - believe me, I've got firsthand experience as to why they're a big, evil corporation, but this particular conspiracy theory just needs to die. 🙄
