How to move phone numbers?

How can I move my contact list over to the SIM card? I have windows vista and the phone doesn't sync properly. I was looking to find the contact list file on the phone then copy it to the SIM card. What is the best way to move all my contacts? Everything worked well in XP now vista doesn't sync. I have updated all software that had anything to do with windows mobile.
