It's not for lack of trying. Nokia did develop an N80 for the US, and also the 6282 and N75. It just seems to be various issues between Nokia and Cingular that are holding things back.

Since the N75 as well as the iphone are so greatly anticipated (keeping in mind the the jury may still out on the N75, hopefully, Cingy will cave under the pressure), we should expect to see them at the same time.
