You must unlock the N75 to make it better!

I unlocked my phone this weekend! I got the code from AT&T after calling them. I recieved the code via e-mail. Then i changed the product code after unlocking the phone. Then i installed the latest firmware. My phone is the sh&t now! It is truly an Nseries device not that Cingular or AT&T crap. Wow! Here is the link I used after unlocking my phone:

Dumb question time. I just got my N75 not too long ago and I'm kindof a rookie. What (besides making it usable with other providers) does unlocking a phone do exactly?

First you have a phone that is what the finnish wanted it to be. Second you have a competley stable phone with A2DP and other features that are not on the cingular branded version. It is like you have an Eureopean version. The battery life is better. Also know you better themes and the ability to turn off 3G or use Edge only. The three buttons on the front are much better! Now you the option to turn on the radio or music player. The music player button is just like a Nseries device should be. The list goes on and on. The main thing is just like an iphone you know can update your firmware as needed. Overall you will have a better phone

Will you loose any games, graphics, applications, etc. when you unlock and reset the phone?

Yes! But what games do you have on the phone! The best thing to do is go to memory card under settings and back up all data to memory card. But you will still have quickoffice and all orginal applications once your phone is updated. One other note...the gallery application is much faster.

Ciliatus - be careful. Your question referred specifically to "unlocking" ... the above responses pertained primarily to "un-branding or de-branding" - which is a lot different than "unlocking".

Unlocking means you can use other GSM carriers SIM card in the phone. Un-branding (or de-branding) means you get the benefits that LARUE26 highlighted.

Wasn't trying to pick on you - just didn't want to get a self-described "rookie" confused even more ...

I know. I just wanted to be sure everyone knows exactly what i did because unlocking the phone is one thing. It is quite another thing to unbrand the phone. If they do not follow the process to the letter, you may end up with a brick phone. You must follow the instructions carefully to have a great N75 phone.

Does the order in which you debrand and unlock the N75 matter? How much does this cost? Any websites you recommend? Thanks.

After unlock and unbrand the N75, will Media Net still work? Thank you so much.

Yes, it will. The only service I can't get to work is MobiTV. I can use Media Net, Cingular Video and my POP3 email.

Go into Real Player and set it up in there. Others have also bookmarked it in Services.

How did you go about getting the unlock code? Is there a website you can go to get it for free? I don't want to go through the hassle and time to try to get one from AT&T Customer Service...

Thanks!

Has anyone experienced any loss of reception due to using this process. I work in an AT&T agent location and have seen a lot of phones lose reception when they get unlocked. I love my N75 but do want to take advantage of the A2DP and other benefits of unbranding it but not if I'm not going to be able to use it for it's primary purpose: it is a phone!
Any feedback I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.

I followed these instructions:

http://www.thegogglesdonothing.com/archives/2007/08/ ... »

but the phone still has AT&T characteristics like the login sh*t etc. I followed the directions to the letter:

"To do this, start the software and hit "Scan" if your phone doesn't show up at first. Then press "Read" to get the current values from your phone. Then check the "Enable" box next to "Product Code," which tells the software that it's only that field you want to modify. Type the new code 0541358 into the box, and hit "Write."

Now we have a phone which is electronically indistinguishable from the $400 unlocked model that Nokia will sell you -- and thus we can use all of Nokia's software update tools to bring it up t...
