Maybe a loose date for delivery and a glimmer of hope.

Managed to chat with one of the guys I trust today and he looked things up in the system and then made a few calls for me on the release.

The comment was the phone was due to be released last week. Again it was delayed they have an internal order date for for the stores of April 24th that puts it in the stores a week or two later. He expects to get an internal notification no more than the week prior to release.

The delays are all to do with Cingular wanting to have things removed form the phone and Nokia wanting them to remain. This is the general flow with Nokia that is why most Nokia phones get delayed through Cingy. I asked about branding and the comment was not even a big deal yet. They want AT&T but for now that will not sto...

This is what gets my goat about Cingular: they want to cripple all of the goodies that Nokia provides.

This is precisely what engadget mobile said a month ago:

Does Nokia have their hands tied when it comes to releasing the phone unbranded? If Cingular is going to put restrictions that limit the functionality of the phone, I'll pick up an unbranded version.

As this phone is going to be released for Cingy only to start with, I would imagine a clause that would prohibit release prior to the Cingy release. Once out I would imagine Nokia can release the full version but also at the full price.

The Cingy version could be flashed, but a guy I spoke to in Sacramento does not like to flash Nokia phones because if one line gets typed in wrong the phone won't work. Someone will come up with a crack for the application blocking if there is one. The Cingy N75 that Symbian Guru got hold of did load applications ok. I don't care about buying music over my phone because I manage my music on my PC. I think it will be cheaper to do a few mods than to pay for an unlocked phone, and still have all the functionality. We will all have something to share about these issues soon. All new threads for the forum. 🙂
