My Cingy Rep came by today to let me know they were going to release today then postponed the 6126 to a later date. He's been told they have decided to release it the same day as the N75 which hes been told is March 23rd. so Cingular will have 2 new Nokia's to satisfythe public outcry. A medium flipphone, and a smartphone. As we all know this all could be bulllshit, but it does kind of make since. He also said it will be sold for 250.00 at the stores with a mail in rebate of 50 bucks, and less with Best Buy and the Website. which from the earlier post seems to be confirmed. anyways just thiought i'd let you all know

This makes total sense, and accounts for why Negri Electronics is allowed to start stocking the phone on the 22nd.

Folks, I think we're finally here. 😁 I'm going to hold off a bit to wait for the prices to fall a bit, and then buy my phone unlocked. My unlocked 6131 is really a pretty good phone so I'll be able to hold out a while.

Still, I predict that the combination of a solid operating system (S60 3rd Ed.), 3G, a decent camera, good apps for the phone (smart2go, presenter, universal remote, games, etc.), good apps for the PC (pcsync, presenter, etc.) will turn the N75 into a standard of sort.

hi honzik!!

you can pretty much get any phone unlocked from cingy i have had about 4 phones unlocked in past 10 years all you have to do is call their international # and let em know you will be traveling abroad and they will help you however if the phone is new like n75 it takes time for them to get unlocking software. i had to wait a while before i got my slvr. unlocked

as far as I know the main benifit of an unlocked phone is it can be used with other carriers, also certain restrictions are taken off, I'm not an unlocked phone person so don't quote me on that last part, but i do know for certain you can use unlocked phones with almost any carrier

The reason I like unlocked phones is primarily because when I travel on business to Europe, I'm able to buy a local carrier's prepaid sim card and use it in my phone. That way I can use the phone at the local rates and not the Cingular International rate.

BTW, the ability to use just one phone for traveling is the reason I use Cingular: they use the GSM standard for transmission which is the most common standard throughout the world. With a quad band phone I'm pretty much able to go anywhere. (This is opposed to a CDMA standard which, while more a efficient means of transmitting data, is common only in the States (Verizon, Sprint) and SOuth Korea if I'm not mistaken)

Lastly, unlocked phones tend to lack the canned cr4pw4re that the maj...

Depending on the phone and Carrier, Unlocking is always the way to travel. I also use Pre-Paid Simms When I travel, Normally the T Guys in Europe. But I have more memory in My Razr than with Cingular branded phone. On the first US release the Razr never had Video unlocked did.
When a phone is unlocked it helps with travel and placing calls in any market even if you are on Cingy network in another marketplace it regisiters the phone in a different way.
I have been told other things on unlocked phones but not sure so I will keep them to myself.

I have a Nokia 6682 from Cingular and I had it unlocked before I went overseas in December. When I got it unlocked, some new options popped up. When I got overseas, I realized that I could now choose my carrier with my Cingular SIM in there. I had never seen that option before I unlocked it. It was pretty cool actually, I could log onto whichever network I wanted (Orange or T-Mobile or others). Also, it finally allowed me to delete some of the other Cingular branded stuff, like the Mall and others. This gave me some more memory.

If you're just using a phone to make calls in the US, then no worries, leave your phone locked. If you're trying to do other things or travel to Europe/Asia/Australia and you are sure you're going to pull...
