DRM Indemnification

The N75 was expected to be released the end of February or beginning of March which is why it is on the price list and rebate form. Unfortunlately Nokia has not received Indemnification from Microsoft to use DRM.

Until they get that piece of paper signed by Micorsofts lawyers we will not see the N75 from Cingular.

What does a symbian non msft phone have in any way or form to do with msft and it's drm? They aren't using msft's servers, or services. Thats like saying Apple can't release a new ipod or mac without approval of msft.

It's because the music player is compatible with WMA DRM, so they have to have MS approval for everything.

Doubtful that is the reason for the hold up, and still makes no sense whatsoever.

Not sure if you have noticed, but cingular is making their cingular music a main focus in so they wanted the n75 to be compatable with both napster and yahoo! To do that it has to be compatible with WMA DRM.

Cingular doesn't want to have any chance of legal repercussions with this so they are requiring nokia have the indemnification before launching they launch the device.

From what I was told, the main sticking point between Nokia and MS is whether or not this indemnification is just for the n75 or for all future phones the make compatable with DRM.

The most recent date talked about is at the end of March, beginning of April.

It makes perfect sense to me that some MS lawyers would be behind the hold up. 😁
