Buying the N75 unlocked

I am very curius how many people out there would prefer buying the unlocked N75 instead of the Cingular version. I am contemplating buying the unlocked version - untouched, unmarked, and unmodified from Nokia. Past phones that I have had from Cingular I did not care for all the mods they do to the software/phone.

IMO it won't be sold unlocked/unbranded. The 3G is Cingular's, which means that people on T-mobile won't be able to use the 3G part. Plus, the firmware, from what I have seen, is chocked full of Cingular's crapware, including a music download service.

If the N75 is not out by May and the 6290 is, I will buy that phone instead.

One fix that I have found online for cleaning up the Cingular menu items is to place them in a seperate folder and name it anything(S60 allows you to create folders).

As for Nokia selling an unlocked version - any insiders know what may happen

Best info out there is that Cingular was given a 90 day exclusive - starting on the Cingular release date, whenever that turns out to be. Best guess at the unlocked price is $399.

The 90 day wait period makes a lot of sense. I may have to wait then 🙂 I like the $399 estimate.

I don't recall ever seeing a phone not available unlocked. Nokia knows they can sell a boatload to those not wanting Cingy's crappy fw/sw..

As an aside..did they change the OS to FP1 to support HSDPA? If not, why would you spend all that time downloading music over UMTS?

I hope that it shows up on the Nokia site for less than $400, but I am thinking its going to be closer to $499
