can you download/install programs to a memory card? (AT&T)

I recently learned that AT&T apparently has disabled the ability to install programs on the phone unless you download them via their media net service.

Assuming this is true (and it seems to be), is it possible to download/install directly to a memory card, or is it at least possible to install to the phone and then move the programs over to the card?

Also, I doubt it's possible but is there any way to customize the menu icons in the main menu? Four of the nine are links to AT&T stuff I won't use, and I have to dig several levels down in the 'my stuff' folder to get to programs I use frequently. I would love to get a link to the applications & games folder in the main menu.

Thanks for any help!

For customization, the best you can probably do assign a shortcut key for your apps. Press Options key > #6 Settings > #4 Phone Settings > #2 Shortcuts > assign one of the four arrow keys and choose Options > #1 Change then scroll down to the games and applications feature and choose it. You can also customize your My Stuff menu to bring in new apps and change the order of the menu. Open My Stuff > Options > #2 Change > then delete or assign an app to a position.
But I haven't heard of being able to mod icons (yet).
Good luck.

Actually, AT&T didn't do this...Cingular did when they first released the SYNC. As far as I know, there has not been an updated firmware for the phone since release, and there are people begging for them to fix what was broken. For example, the firmware provided by Samsung (that you can't get) has the capability to background java applications like almost every other phone...however, this was DISABLED. If you'll notice, you can put a picture in your audio directory and it still works fine, but put a java program there, it isn't recognized. Also, there are things locked into the phone that may not even be desired to be there (images, contacts, etc). These have been there since release, prior to deciding to merge with AT&T.

I'd like to hav...

Yeah, this is a shame, and I actually feel bad for AT&T being blamed for what Cingular did. I wish we could get our hands on a stock Samsung firmware...maybe we could even get Bluetooth EDR as advertised (yes, EDR doesn't work, even with my class 1 bluetooth adapter).
