switching 3g to 2g

is it possible to switch to 2g on the sync???

Well, yeah; mine is on GPRS half the time and on Edge the other half because we don't have 3G in most of my state. I think you can just dial 611 and ask to be ping'd to the nearest, strongest signal (likely a 2.5 Edge). You may need to power cycle to effect the change - be sure and ask.
Heres what all the G's equal:
1G- GSM data
2G- GPRS
2.5G- EDGE
3G- UMTS
3.25G- HSDPA

Technically, the Sync uses a 3.25G technology.
HSDPA is an advanced version of UMTS. If you want to know more, Google the acronyms.

There are still some old generic sim cards out there that don't support 3g network, try to find one of those. It'll pretty much guaratee you won't access 3g.
