I'm tired of reading through all these threads from people that are having trouble with features on their blackberry. If you're not going to pay the extra money monthly for the data package for the blackberry (any Blackberry...not just the Pearl) Then don't buy the blackberry. Most features that access the network on a Blackberry REQUIRE the data plan ie: MMS, all IM, E-Mail, any type of internet browsing, T-Zones or Full Web. The only reason T-Zones is an option to use in the device is because it has quick links to basic account information, and you can customize your own links as well (instead of using the browser to go to Hollywood.com to check movies times you can pre set specific theaters trough T-Zones) Now this may seem to some people...

Thank you so much for this post! You need to post this on every forum across the web. I don't understand how people pay so much for a Blackberry or PDA device and use it like a glorified phone. Just ridiculous.

I could see the point a year ago when BBs and PDAs were $300-$500, but now they are $100-$200, so what is the big deal? It's no big deal to have an internet phone with no internet. It's like having a phone with memory card slot and not having MP3s- it's no big deal. And for the same price you get a phone with no internet. Why do that? Why pay $200 for the slider phone w/no internet when you could get a BlackBerry for the same price, and put internet on it when they are ready, maybe 6 months-One year from now?
I don't understand you people who "don't understand people"-****, you deal with them everyday, right? Does it feel good to dis people digitally? I bet you would never say that to someone's face...

he's right. People come to these websites to better understand their options. Not everyone knows off the bat that certain services require internet add-ons. They ask here so as to avoid asking those assinine questions to reps in person. And better they get that information somewhere than make reps' lives miserable once they look at their exceedingly high bill. I understand the frustration, but as a rep, wouldn't you feel better just relaying the info rather than explaining to a lowly customer how big business just took advantage of his ignorance?

Mr. Boo is not complaining about people who buy the blackberry and decide NOT to use the internet......He is complaining about the people who whine about not being able to use T-Zones to access the internet. It is one thing to ask a question and then accept the fact that they need a blackberry plan. It is another thing to learn that and then continue to whine. Plus why would someone buy a high-powered device like the blackberry without fully investigating it? It seems pretty stupid to me.

I tell every customer i deal with that there is not point in buying the device without gettnig data. I flat out tell them im not going to sell it to them unless I add the data to the account. For the PDA's is DOES matter if you dont get the DATA. The phone does not work properly.

OKay, (hand raised), I was one of the ignorant people that bought the Treo 650 without the data plan and got a 380.00 cell phone bill which normally runs me around $100 bucks for trying to surf the net. However, I purchased a so called "new", but actually used phone that had a lot of issues and quickly got rid of it. I've recently purchased the Pearl after seeing it at a cingular stand in the mall and doing some research of course. I haven't actually gotten it yet, but was wondering if you could give me some advice on what type data plan I would need. I plan on using the phone to its full potential with work and everything and would also like to know where I get information on setting up and using all the great features. I love these ...

I disagree...I purchased the Pearl without a data package and was blown away at its features just as a phone and digital assistant. I think the voice dialing alone is worth buying the phone not to mention its calendar and contact list functionality.

Now I have added a data plan to experience all the other features and all I can say is WOW ! This is an AWESOME phone ! Thank you RIM !

The purpose of buying a blackberry, or smartphone is so that they can manage their day with schedules, tasks, notes, etc without having to carry a separate PDA in addition to their phone. Why not just have it all in one?

It seems like your thread is referring to a certain group of people posting questions here, but i just wanted to point out that there still is a segment of the population that still gets tremendous benefit from having their daily planner as part of their phone even if they don't have web access.

Well of course. Im not going to argue with that. Im simply putting it out there for the people that wanna use the internet but dont read up on it or listen to there sales rep, and when they try and use it without the data plan it doesnt work and then they complain about it. Just got tired of people coming into my store complaining about it and then coming on here and reading about it as well...

Unfortunately, I bought mine from the Cingular web site, with little to no information. I am very frustrated with my phone. I have a data plan and still no "Globe" or intenet access. When I go to a local store to asked for help, most of them have never even touched one. So. YES.. some of us are stupid.. but that is why we are asking question.
