LG VX-9400

I read in an earlier thread that one way to set mp3s as my ringtones that I'd have to put a clip in the 'my sounds' folder, then text it to myself and save it as a ringtone. I tried it a few times, and I only managed to have one set and saved as a mp3. The others I've tried end up being a QPC file, and the sound quality is horrible compared to the one that saved correctly. What should I do to make sure that the ringtone will be saved as an mp3, or is there another and easier way to do this? Please let me know. Thank you.
