8703e as a modem

Does the 8703e work well as a modem? If so what kind of speed are you getting? What does Verizons wireless unlimited cost?

Is it the same as the National broadband?

Apparently you can get Sprint's phone as modem combined with unlimited blackberry data now for $39.95/month (with no phone plan) as long as you sign a 2 yr. contract.

I think the broadband is the same between both companies b/c they both use an evdo network. I'm just not sure if the broadband coverage is the same. If its not, Verizon probably has a more extensive network, but Verizon will probably cost $60-$70 for the phone as modem, PLUS the blackberry another $40-$50 per month.

I'm leaning towards sprint myself and will likely take them up on their '30 day guarantee'. Unfortunately I won't be able to travel the country in that time to know if the coverage is acceptable.

If you have a voice plan on the phone and subscribe to unlimited data, you get to tether it using a USB cable. The speeds I am seeing are about 1 meg down and 200k up. $15.00 a month extra for this feature.
It works very well but there is 1 downside:

You cannot speak on the phone and use it as a modem at the same time. While you can receive a call when you are surfing the net, the voice path takes precedence and your internet stops until you hang up the active call.
I don't find that an issue but some might.
